The value of sport for the local economy
13 July 2019
A wide range of issues, challenges and opportunities were discussed when a panel of representatives from some of the city’s major sporting clubs debated ‘The Business of Sport’ at the Leicestershire Business Voice (LBV) latest Lunchtime Meetup event.
Held at the Morningside Arena, home of the Leicester Riders, LBV members and guests heard from an expert panel – including Kevin Routledge from Leicester Riders Basketball Club, Paul Nixon from Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Scott Clarke from Leicester Tigers and Ali Clements from Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport – how the success of Leicestershire sports teams can contribute to the success of the local economy.
Some of the key parts of the discussion included hosting international events to put Leicester on the map in new markets such as China, serving the community and education outreach, hosting events and corporate hospitality, how sporting events contribute to the visitor economy, sponsorship and membership, and establishing credibility to form long-term commercial partnerships.
Leicestershire and Rutland Sport emphasised the commitment of all sporting clubs and venues to working with business groups in the city and county, and LBV will seek to identify further opportunities for members and for the wider business community.
