Leicester and Leicestershire growing and growth-oriented companies are missing out/limiting their growth potential due to limited awareness of opportunities, networks and available fully subsidised targeted business and innovation support.

LBV’s Business Scale Up event on 11 April 2024 will provide members and the wider Leicester and Leicestershire business community an opportunity to meet with senior representatives from Innovate UK and Barclays Eagle Lab and explore their scale up support offer to SMEs.

LBV’s Scale Up event is designed to support local innovation, productivity and growth ‘at the cutting edge of science and technology’ by supporting businesses with growth aspirations by ‘continuing to build an entrepreneurial region, further improving rates of enterprise start-ups and scale-ups, and helping businesses recover after the pandemic’ (references taken from LLEPs Growth Strategy 2021-2030).

A scale up business for Innovate UK is an innovative company that has ‘typically witnessed, or is expecting, strong growth’.

OECD defined ‘a scale up company as a company having an average annualised return of at least 20% in the past 3 years, and had at least 10 employees at the start of the 3 year period’.

Paul Jenkinson, Scaleup Director on the Innovate UK Business Growth Scaleup Programme and Poonam Sharma, Ecosystem Manager at Barclays Eagle Lab, Leicestershire will be joining us as guest speakers. They will be joined by up to two businesses on their scale up journey, who will talk about how they have benefited from the support and what it has meant to their business.

The Innovate UK Scaleup Programme helps the highest potential business realise their ambitions. The programme is a funded business support programme for ambitious SME companies in the UK who are established and ready to rapidly scale their innovative businesses.

Barclays Eagle Labs works with ambitious founding teams and motivated management leaders in businesses that are committed to achieving extraordinary results. The programme is designed for high-potential scalable businesses, and addresses six core components that are key to business growth.

Also attending the event will be guest speaker, Darren Jones, Director of Coventry-based, award winning NRG Marine Ltd., who is a beneficiary of Innovate UK’s scale up programme.

NRG is the world’s leading ultrasonic antifouling company. Based in Coventry with its Operations Hub and R&D centre in Abu Dhabi, NRG’s two brands, Sonihull and Agitate, are delivering a green technology that is disrupting the industries it enters.

NRG is winner of the King Award for International trade with over 95% of its sales being overseas. NRG is seeing rapid growth and as such has been working with the Innovate UK Business Growth Scaleup Programme.

By attending, you will gain awareness of the fully funded national scale up support available from Innovate UK and Barclays Eagle Lab, network with programme providers to secure scale up support to achieve your growth potential, and meet other organisations interested in scaling up.
